Laser Gum Therapy
Periodontal Disease is a gum disease caused by bacteria that feed on plaque and
tartar. These bacteria attack the gum tissue surround the teeth, causing the gums
to peel back end eventually perish. If left uncontrolled, periodontal disease can
spread to the bone that supports the teeth, and eventually lead to tooth loss. As
many as one-third of all Americans have gum disease, but many do not know it. It
is important to know that periodontal disease can be controlled if it is found early
in its stages.
The Symptoms
In our office, we control periodontal disease by using the techniques of scaling,
root planing, and laser debridgement. This includes a thorough cleaning of the teeth
below the gum line. By removing all possible tartar, we can keep the bacteria from
spreading.
If left untreated, periodontal disease can lead to problems in other parts of the
body, specifically the heart. Studies have shown that individuals with untreated
gum disease have a greater risk or heart disease. Therefore, if you experience any
of the symptoms listed above, please let us know so we can get a head start on controlling
the disease.
